Summary: This suspense horror/dark fantasy story is set in Tokyo, populated in part by mysterious "Ghouls" who can only sustain themselves on human flesh. People are gripped by fear due to these Ghouls, primarily because they cannot be readily identified.

An ordinary-but-soon-to-be-extraordinary college student named Kaneki encounters Rize, a girl who shares his love of books. Little does he realize that his fate will change dramatically after his first date.
